The Art Club at The Shop

What is The Art Club?

The Art club is a weekly gathering for young people, which explores traditional and contemporary approaches to art making.

The emphasis of the workshops aims to develop personal creativity and an understanding of visual arts practice within a supported and nurturing environment.

The starting point for these explorations is often thematic or focuses on the practice of local and more widely recognised artists.

What kind of activities does The Art Club Cover?

The Art club provides the opportunity for young artists to explore a wide range of concepts, materials and processes. Art Club Members, following initial registration, are given their own personal sketchbook, which is used during and after the Art Club sessions. Sketchbooks are developed on a weekly basis alongside the introduction of mini and more substantial projects. Processes that are covered include painting and drawing, printing, experimental mark making, collage, plaster and sculpture, wirework, felt and papermaking, textiles and fashion.
